In Holding the Feather, a woman reaches into uncertainty, arm outstretched, a single feather held aloft, not as surrender, but as declaration. Behind her, a luminous cat stands sentinel: ancient, alert, unwavering. In my practice, birds carry the voice of a higher wisdom; here only the feather remains, stripped of flight, yet still radiant with possibility. Against the encroaching dark that presses from the right, these two figures hold their ground. The composition is built on tension between weight and lightness, shadow and colour, doubt and resolve. This is a painting about what we reach for when we have almost nothing left to reach with.
